More Foreign Trips Than Manmohan Singh Yet Lesser Bill For PM Modi.

#Trending News Of The Day

Till now, PM Modi has taken 44 trips to foreign countries, 6 more than his predecessor Manmohan Singh took during UPA-2. However, the expenses incurred on Modi’s foreign visits are almost Rs 50 crore lesser than that of the latter. As PM, Singh undertook 38 trips abroad in those five years, and incurred an expenditure of Rs 493.22 crore, while Modi has so far been charged Rs 443.4 crore for official foreign visits by Air India. The reason behind lower cost despite more journeys is Modi’s formula of “single ticket double journey” or in other words, travelling to multiple destinations during an overseas trip. While Manmohan Singh travelled mostly to one or two destinations, Modi flew to as many as to six countries on a single trip when he visited Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in 2015.16 of his trips were to multiple countries.

Libyan Crisis Ever since the 2011 uprising which overthrew and killed long-ruling dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Libya is engulfed in a crisis. Even though there is an UN-backed internationally recognised government headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, Libya is governed by rival authorities in the east and in Tripoli, in the west, each backed by various armed groups. LNA is backing the Tobruk-based parliament which governs the East of Libya and the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) controls Libya’s western parts from Tripoli. An agreement signed in 2015 created the GNA as the legitimate interim Libyan government. It was not wholly implemented due to disagreements with the Tobruk-based parliament.

Pakistan could be blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force due to "lobbying by India", Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said as he estimated that the country could suffer $10 billion in losses annually if it remains in the FATF grey list. In June last year, the Paris-based FATF had placed Pakistan on the "grey list" of countries whose domestic laws are considered weak to tackle money-laundering and terror financing. The FATF has told Pakistan to reassess the operation of terrorist groups in the country. A delegation of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), a regional affiliate of the FATF, expressed serious reservations over insufficient action on ground against terror groups to block flow of funds and activities. The team members reportedly raised questions over specific and on-ground actions against each of the eight terror groups proscribed under international requirements.
